* Ingredients :
☞ 3 cups Flour
☞ 3/4 cup granulated sugar
☞ 3/4 cup butter
☞ 1/2 tsp. baking powder
☞ 1/2 tsp. sodium bicarbonate
☞ 1 egg
☞ 3/4 cup buttermilk
☞ 1 C. almond extract
☞ 1 box of cherry pie filling
☞ 1/3 cup sliced almonds
Preheat the oven to 180 ° C . Coat a 9-inch (23 cm) springform pan with fat.
Mix flour /sugar in a large bowl.
Cut the butter into the flour with a pastry cutter until the mixture is crumbly; reserve ½ cup (125 mL) for garnish.
Add baking powder and baking soda to the second half cup.
Whisk egg, buttermilk and almond extract in a medium bowl.
Add to dry ingredients, stirring just to moisten them.
Spread two-thirds of the dough at the bottom and over a good portion of the side wall of the pan.
Spoon the cherry filling over the dough to form an even layer. Add, always with a spoon, the rest of the dough without spreading it.
Stir in the almonds with the reserved mixture and sprinkle everything on the cake.
Bake in preheated oven 65 to 75 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean. Cover the cake with foil if it gets too dark during baking.
