The castle was originally built by Roger de Montgomery, Earl of Arundel, in the late 11th century shortly after the Norman Conquest of England. Over the centuries, it has undergone numerous renovations and expansions, reflecting the changing architectural styles and the tastes of its various owners.
Arundel Castle has been the ancestral home of the Duke of Norfolk and the Howard family for over 400 years. The Howard family is one of England’s oldest and most prominent aristocratic families, with strong ties to the monarchy.
